Research guide

Lemon Bottle, explained

The short version: Lemon Bottle is a ready-mixed fat-dissolving solution sold through the beauty trade as a cosmetic. Regulators in the US and UK have warned about it, and we could not find a single peer-reviewed study of the product.

What it is

Lemon Bottle is a liquid sold as a fat-dissolving injectable. Its marketing names riboflavin (vitamin B2) and lecithin among the ingredients. In the UK it is notified as a cosmetic product rather than licensed as a medicine. It comes in a 10 ml vial and is marketed for trained aesthetic professionals, not for home use.

What regulators have said

In March 2025 the US FDA sent six warning letters over unapproved fat-dissolving injections. The one to Amazon named "LemonBottle Ampoule Solution" and called it an unapproved new drug.

The FDA's wider consumer warning on these products lists reports of permanent scars, serious infections, skin deformities, cysts and deep, painful knots. It also notes that the only FDA-approved fat-dissolving injection is Kybella (deoxycholic acid), approved only for fat under the chin and given by a health professional.

In the UK, the General Pharmaceutical Council wrote to pharmacy professionals in 2025 about concerns over unregulated, unlicensed products, Lemon Bottle by name, being supplied by pharmacies or injected by pharmacists.

Where the evidence stops

A PubMed search for Lemon Bottle returns no clinical study, no case series and no lab study of the product. There is no published evidence on how well it works, how it works, or how often it causes problems. The approved comparison, Kybella, uses a different active ingredient and its trial data say nothing about Lemon Bottle.

Handling and storage

It arrives ready mixed in a sealed 10 ml vial, so there is nothing to reconstitute. Store it as the manufacturer's packaging says, away from heat and direct sunlight, and check the expiry date before use. Do not use a vial with a broken seal or a liquid that looks cloudy or has particles in it.

Sold as a cosmetic, flagged by regulators, and backed by no peer-reviewed evidence at all.
