Further reading: an independent guide to NAD+ ›
NAD+ (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in all living cells. It is central to energy metabolism and sirtuins — the enzyme family associated with longevity — making it a cornerstone of anti-ageing research.
Where we hold an independent Janoshik report for a compound we publish it in full - batch number, purity and a verification key you can check against the lab yourself. Where we do not hold one the product is marked research grade and we say so, rather than claim a report we cannot produce.
The short version: NAD+ is not a peptide at all. It is a coenzyme found in every living cell, central to turning food into usable energy, and levels fall with age. That decline is the whole reason it gets researched.
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) shuttles electrons in the reactions that make ATP, the cell's energy currency. It is also the fuel for enzymes called sirtuins and PARPs, which are involved in DNA repair and how cells respond to stress.
NAD+ falls with age in every species studied. Part of the reason is an enzyme called CD38, which breaks NAD+ down and becomes more active as we age. Topping NAD+ back up is the idea behind most of the research.
| What it is | Human evidence | |
|---|---|---|
| NAD+ | The coenzyme itself | Preliminary |
| NR | Precursor (nicotinamide riboside) | Several trials: raises NAD+, modest effects |
| NMN | Precursor (nicotinamide mononucleotide) | Trials: raises NAD+, modest effects |
Most human trials use oral precursors, NR and NMN, which the body converts into NAD+. They reliably raise blood NAD+ levels, but the health effects seen so far are modest. For NAD+ given directly, the evidence is thinner still: it is a large molecule that does not cross cell membranes intact and breaks down quickly outside cells. Reviews describe that use as experimental.
It arrives as a freeze-dried powder. Once bacteriostatic water goes in, it belongs in the fridge. Our reconstitution and storage guide covers the details, and the calculator does the maths.
Central to every cell, falls with age, and still waiting for strong human trials on topping it up.
