What is CJC-1295 (DAC)?

A synthetic peptide modelled on the first twenty-nine amino acids of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, with substitutions that slow enzymatic breakdown. The Drug Affinity Complex is an added linker intended to bind serum albumin, which extends how long the molecule persists in circulation. The No DAC version, listed separately, is the same fragment without that linker.

How deep is the published research on it?

The record is small. What exists focuses mainly on pharmacokinetics and receptor-level behaviour, including early-phase human work that never led to an approved product. Researchers should not assume the depth of literature that sits behind long-established compounds, and should read the primary sources rather than secondary summaries.

Research guide

CJC-1295 (DAC), explained

The short version: CJC-1295 with DAC is a growth hormone-releasing hormone analogue fitted with a chemical hook that bonds to albumin, the most common protein in blood. That turns a signal that normally lasts minutes into one that lasted close to a week in healthy volunteers.

What it is

DAC stands for Drug Affinity Complex, a technology from ConjuChem in Montreal. The peptide part is GRF(1-29), the active front end of growth hormone-releasing hormone, with four amino acids changed for stability. ConjuChem then added a lysine carrying a reactive maleimide group to the tail. After injection that group bonds to albumin, and the peptide rides around attached to it, out of reach of the enzymes that normally destroy it.

What has been studied

Rats (2005). ConjuChem's paper in Endocrinology found CJC-1295 stuck to albumin within 15 minutes and still in the blood beyond 72 hours. Over two hours it produced four times the growth hormone response of plain GRF(1-29).

Healthy adults (2006). Two randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind trials in people aged 21 to 61, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, measured a half-life of 5.8 to 8.1 days. One injection lifted average growth hormone two- to tenfold for at least six days, and IGF-1 1.5- to threefold for 9 to 11 days. No serious adverse reactions were reported.

Where the evidence stops

That is the whole human record: short dosing and safety studies in healthy volunteers. Nobody measured muscle, fat, performance or long-term safety, and it was never approved as a medicine. A 2026 review in Frontiers in Endocrinology grades it as phase 1 evidence only, with no controlled efficacy data. Constantly raised IGF-1 is the main long-term question mark the review raises for this whole class.

Handling and storage

It arrives as a freeze-dried powder. Once bacteriostatic water goes in, it belongs in the fridge. Our reconstitution and storage guide covers the details, and the calculator does the maths.

The albumin hook is the whole point: it stretched a minutes-long signal into days. Beyond two small volunteer studies, the human picture is blank.
